Going by train is gorgeous… you don’t have to worry about traffic jams or time… you just can sit back and wait, until you arrive at your target point. You can also listen to your favorite music as loud as you want (unless you have earphones that are louder to the outside than to the inside). The only thing, that is strange is, that everybody is staring at me. Sitting here with my iBok and my iPod (in a pink sock) listening to Keane. I just feel right.
We are currently halting at Frankfurt Main main station, it took 1:30h from duisburg. We traveled with an average speed of around 200km/h. Really nice.

Trains to the future
Thursday, July 21st, 2005If this is communication… I disconnect.
Wednesday, July 20th, 2005Currently, I’m on the train to Wuerzburg. Thats the second of 4 Trains, i’ll have to ride until I am in Roedental near Coburg, where Inoad will pick me up. The first train was from my hometown Xanten, departure 12:00, then I waited in Duisburg nearly 45 minutes and am now on ICE727. The other passengeers are very very openminded and talk to each other… that was diffferent in the other train and on the platform, where I was waiting.
4 People were sitting there, all bored and alone (except a couple, that had just devorced or such… they were screaming and shouting at each other until he left on the train and she staied with me and the others at the platform, criing terribly) and quiet. I treid to start a conversation with a man, sitting witch me on the bench, but he ignored me… so I ignored all the others, took me iPod and listened to my favorite “Garbage” Album. Its really sad, how people treat each other nowadays and slowly, I am getting bored. How should i get to know new people, if everybody ignores each other.
In front of me at the table, there is sitting a nice older couple, who travel from Duisburg to Munich. My train goes to Munich, too but they have to change the train in Wuerzburg, just like me. Its terribly strange, how a company can treat people like that.
Currently I am thinking about, what i did to my friend Tim. We decided to live together as a comunity in Oberhausen, but i just can’t. In major, its not him (well… perhaps a bit, but that hadn’t been a cause for me to cancel the whole thing) but me, who messes up the situation. I currently just can’t live with someone in the same flat. I just wan’t to be alone, studiing, achieving my goals and making my dreams come true on my own.
Apart from that, he doesn’t know me very well (even if I am sure he thinks that after the 2 Years we know each other). He really doen’t know or at minimum doesn’t understand how I sometimes feel about lonleyness. As i know him, he’s a person who just can’t be on his own and feels uncomfortable, if he iis alone. Maybe that is why he told me, that I broke his base, he currently stands on.
On one side, i think that i am a coward, not to try it… on the other hand, I think, if i push my self too much to try it without really wanting it, it might break later on… and I don’t want to think, of the base, that might brek for him, then. Hes a friend of mine after all… thats what i think. He tried to call me in the last days, when i was off, so i still have no further reaction, but i could understand, if he distanced totally from me.
So… while thinking and not having to drive by myself… the Starseeker
Gifts from Hell
Wednesday, July 20th, 2005Hello and welcome to the Starseeker GiftShop! Here you will find … only one gift, namely the Model I (short form for Model Inoad). Its a modification of the very populat Model M Keyboard for my friend inoad. Its her favorite keyboard, so I thought, how I could modify it for her to like it.

take a look at the original one first
The first thing I did was cleaning the key caps. This is important, ’cause here the most dirt waits, to give the color a hard time. I put all the key caps into a “bowl” and applied a special “you-dont-want-to-know-whats-inside”-cleaner on them…
Thats me, holding the bowl of key caps… (yeah… with my feet. I needed those hands to make that photo).
mix …
… sicken …
… vomit …
… and i came really close
and look how nicely they’re all sorted
he’s a bit shy on photos
What am I without the right tool in my hands? Nothing. So I searched the right tool… (a really scary uncommon 5mm 6-edge socket wrench) but couldn’t find it. So I used my fine metal rasp and tortured my needle-nosed pliers to be thin enough to fit into the screw holes of the keyboard.
Thats the long haired me at the file…
… really busy. (thanks to Michael for making these Photos)
Even exchanging the leds on the led panel seemed to be managable
Yeah! Senior keyboard body surfing the clothesline!
Watch them dry in small groups…
… or as a perfect couple
Watch nearly the whole family reunited
The other day, I colored all the other keycaps red and black, corrected some errors and went on to the most tricky part… changing the diods.
I’ll entertain you with some pictures first.
Thats the diode PCB… small, simple and normally glued onto the main plate of the keyboard.
‘Your best friend: The third hand’ - exchanging the diods WITHOUT burning myself (really uncommon, cause i seen not to be scared that much about the heat on the solder).
Thats the diode PCB again… can you tell what changed?! Yes! Right! The perspective is different!
Then, I cleanded the main plate of the keyboard and branded the internals for my “sister” inoad
There is some writing on that metal, but you might not be able to figure, so:
IBM Model M
Produced 21.9.1987 07:06 PM
Modification 17.7.2005
by Joel Garske
For his Sister Inoad
new name: Model I
While I was changing the diods and cleaning the main plate, all the parts went dry enough to be reassembled step by step.
The new mainplate with nearly all key caps set up
The new body with nearly all key caps in it.
After breaking my fingers while reassembling the electronics and mountign the screws as carefully as possible, the whole thing, WITH the missing “return” key and the “Short Haired Me” looked like this:
Look at my smiling comfortable and pleased face
Signs leading you nowhere
Tuesday, July 19th, 2005If you are driving your bike and care of the laws, regulating traffic on the streets, you might have come across diffrent kinds of signs on the street. But never trust them. On my way home yesterday, I saw a sign, leading to nowhere or at least serve injuries.
You can see the sign, telling you to head right, don’t you?
If you follow that sign like this…
…you’ll have a bittersweet rendezvous with that crane.
Please mind, that the sign has been hung there AFTER the crane was built up
There also is no way to pass it by on that street. Strange people…. _strange_ people!
Hair: cut it!
Monday, July 18th, 2005Do you know what I look like? Hm? Do you? If you do, throw everything you think you know away and take THIS! (very short post huh? this post isn’t the only “short” thing today). The last picture actually looks really weird, but with one more coffee and my cglasses on, it looks more comfortable.
Community barbecue
Saturday, July 16th, 2005Yesterday, the active part of the LugX gathered for a barbecue to talk about some things concerning the LUG. We are all very disappointed by the activity of other members, so we wrote all letters to the ML,describing our feelings about the Lug. Wehave all decided to take part only passively fow a while in the Lug.
Apart from that partly really Sad thing, we had a really great evening
Thats all for now…
Have a nive weekend
2 Balconies and a bush
Friday, July 15th, 2005If you thought, you’d get away today without reading another blog entry, then you’re wrong. Theres something, I have to tell you about, and please read carefully, cause I am doing it a bit different from how I would do it normally.
Imagine, you are sitting on your balcony with your friends, its a nice summer evening and drinking your beer as usual… beneath your balcony, there is a small street, leading to the city and beside your house, there is a small ground (obviously lower than the street), where all types of plants are growing. 3 People are coming down the street, talking and loughing.
Suddenly, one of the person, starts running towards a bush that stands beside the free ground, stumbles right into that bush, screams “Huiii” and then falls into the pit full of thorny plants and stinging-nettles. He then shouts out to the other 2 People “Shit.. obviously deeper than I thought!” and stands up from his planty “bed”.
10 minutes later, another person from another balcony. You can see 3 people, stumbling through a pit full of stingy plants, one of them with a bright orange jacket labeled “Rettungsdienst” or in english “rescue service”. A small car is standing at the border of the pit and the 3 guys are fighting the plants with hedge shears, a small hatchet and a flashlight. They are wearing rubbergloves and seem to be in a rage against the plants, throwing them around, cursing out loud.
Thats how it might have looked, what happened to us today
What really happened: 2 friends of mine and me were walking through the city, coming along that pit full of plants with a small bush in front of it. That one friend said something like “Hey… who wants to jump into that bush?” and the other friend did. Perhaps he didn’t know that that “Field full of little flowers” (thats how it looked from the street) behind the bush was actually a 1.2m deep pit full of stingy plants. Guess what? Right… he fell right into it… but apart from a few smaller injuries he’s all right, so don’t worry.
Because he lost his glasses while doing that, we searched for those a long time. The other friend went to my place to get his car, I got some gardening equiptment and we started looking for the glasses (but without success). Thats partly funny, partly very sad, because the glasses are still gone.
Now have a good night.

Like murphy…
Thursday, July 14th, 2005While today, everything at work went well, the customer, who’s PC I had to build (the missing part, you might remember?!) didn’t show up at last and there were about 5 customers, so everything was really quiet.
But i want to tell you a story, that happened yesterday in the shop and made me really mad. A guy recently bought an old PIII700 that we still had rotting around for about 30 Euros or something like that. He didn’t have any monitor for that, so he asked us to get a used old one. So, a few days ago, we dissolved one Workplace and turned it into a packaging area, so that fully intact 17″CRT, which was standing there since middle 2004 was free. We made him come across to pick it up for another 20 Euro, that he paid. He’d just left the shop when we heard a terrible *WHAM* from outside the front window… and as we looked, that guy was standing in front of his new (now broken) monitor which fell off his bike. Perhaps I have to tell you, that he is really poor and was happy to be able to bring up the money for that used monitor. I hate it when these people are chased by bad luck. But me and my chef Marc decided to get him an new one for free and take back the broken one.
Thats all for now… see you then

Working hard
Thursday, July 14th, 2005Hi again…
since its a busy day, I have many thinks to talk about, even if time is rare. I’m currently waiting for a delivery from our distributor (while reading stephs blog), that should send us a Mainboard and a CPU for a system we have to build. I built the system to the point where i need the missing parts, so i have a little time now. My notebook tunes in the Secret Sound Service, a perfect webradio for moments I have to concentrate or even if i want to relax. Its electronic ambient/Lounge music and, looking to the systems quality, cabeling etc, it also seems to enhace my productivity :). Now there is only the Trans-o-Flex guy missing. Where the hell might he got stuck?!
What I forgot to talk about was my room… lately I’ve been embarressed about how it looked when I got visitors. It was a whole bunch of stuff, scattered all over the place with absolutely NO system. So I decided about 3 Weeks ago, to clean up. After another week, cleaning was all finished and now I am living in a more tidy place. The result was: Over 100kg of defective electronic parts, 120kg of paper, 80kg plastic trash and about 80m unneded cables where discarded. I cleaned EVERYTHING and am now happy with the results :). I even fixed my VERY broken wardrobe and placed a plant on it. You might have noticed her in my blog already, since she is writing here, too in moments, when i don’t look after my PC (i might think over changing my passwords). I named her Hyatt and she is “made” out of 10 bamboo sticks. Please be nice to her.
So… I’ll now wait on for the Trans-o-Flex guy and the friend, who wanted to visit me.
Have a nive day… have a nice star.
Back to the Roots
Thursday, July 14th, 2005… or say “Put your roots back on”. We wish you a good morning
and welcome you on this world again. We only wanted to inform you about the fact, that our roots are growing again, since they were nearly totally removed during cleaning yesterday. We were standing in a water of such a bad quality that our roots couldn’t grow but now everything has changed :).
Your new friend Hyatt will keep you informed :)…
Stupidity accelerates!
Thursday, July 14th, 2005Hello everybody!
I had a beatiful night and slept very very well… until… one of my neighbours, who calls himself a “car machinist” got the really really senseful idea to test his car engine at 7:00AM. JUST IN TIME to interrupt my precious dreams and with that, and to steal my sleep, which I actually need really much. He ran the test programme “Major noise, less afford” in which he accelerated his engine (while having no gear inserted) to about 7k-8krpm very fast for about 10 minutes in a very short interval. I hoped that his engine might break SO much, but it was no use. My sleep was gone, his engine was fine and so, he is happy, I am tired and really really pissed off. This state is not the state one would let me do customer care or wanted to be one of the customers I usually do care for.
But still, today might get a good day. The weather will supposingly not get too hot, the sky is a bit cloudy and thats the weather I like best. A freind of mine will come to visit me at the shop, all my co-workers or chefs have taken the day off and so it might get a busy day. I have to build some systems, do some repairs and cleaning and care for the customers, dropping by. I hope it will be a lot of fun ;).

The Beginning
Wednesday, July 13th, 2005Hi… we are Hyatt, the new plats of the Starseeker. We live since nearly a week in his room on top of his wardrobe in a vase. We are a bunch of bamboo sticks and try our best to survive a nerds mistakes with plants. But we are tough, so he micht not get us down *thumbsup* (even if we do not have thumbs).
Until today, there was a strange guy in out vase, too. We didn’t like him, so we took all the oxygen from the water we are standing in and unfortunately, made him die. We swear! We didn’t want to. But since he was rotting away, he started to stink terribly, so that our master, the Starseeker had to clean us and the whole vase! Since he didn’t like this stinking guy, he put a shell into the vase for decoration instead. That might be a better idea, since that one doesn’t need the oxygene.
We sure hope we survive the next week, see you all.
